Volunteers Bring Life to Our Gardens

In the spring and summer months, our campus comes alive as residents enjoy the outdoors and volunteers support the hard work of campus beautification. With over 38 acres of land and multiple therapeutic gardens, our campus offers a serene environment for healing and relaxation. Each year, we rely on the dedication of local faith and community groups to maintain these spaces, ensuring they remain beautiful and therapeutic for all.

On May 7th, a small group of women, including a former Mission Lodge resident and her two friends, revitalized one of our smaller garden beds behind Mission Lodge. Their hard work brought new life to the space, making it a welcoming area once again.

On June 2nd, the Plymouth Covenant Church held its annual Serve Day. Volunteers of all ages helped clean up the garden bed around Mission Lodge and painted areas at Home Free Shelter, freshening up the spaces. After their hard work, they enjoyed refreshing slices of watermelon lovingly prepared and delivered by a Mission Lodge resident.

USI visited Mission Heights on June 11th for their annual volunteer day. Last year, they helped install flags for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This time, they tackled the overgrown garden beds around the building, doing a phenomenal job in restoring them to their former glory.

On June 19th, a group from Lenar visited Home Free Shelter and cleaned up the garden beds in front of the building. Lenar, a decades-long supporter of Home Free, also runs a toy drive for the children during the winter holidays. Their efforts have greatly enhanced the garden, making it a beautiful and calming space for all to enjoy.

A big thank you to all our volunteers for their dedication and hard work. Your contributions make our campus a better place for everyone.
