Missions Inc. Programs joins Minnesotans in mourning the deaths of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were murdered in a politically motivated attack early Saturday morning. We extend our deepest condolences to their family, colleagues, and community.

We also send our thoughts to State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were severely wounded in a similar attack. We are grateful they survived and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Rep. Hortman is remembered as a respected, collaborative, and supportive leader and lawmaker. As Speaker of the House and Speaker Emerita, she championed legislation that improved the lives of Minnesotans, including crucial funding for domestic violence services and gun violence prevention. Her leadership and compassion will be deeply missed.

Sen. Hoffman, Chair of the Senate Human Services Committee, has long been a fierce advocate for people with disabilities and those who rely on social services. His work has directly supported Missions Inc. Programs and other providers in meeting critical needs across our state. We hold all those impacted by this tragedy in our thoughts, and we recommit ourselves to building a Minnesota where every person realizes their worth and lives with dignity.
