Today, we celebrate and remember Linda Peter, a treasured member of the Missions Inc. Programs family and a true light in the lives of so many. Linda joined us as the Program Director of Mission Lodge in March 1995, where she poured her heart and energy into helping folks in recovery until her first retirement in 2008. Her commitment to the mission was undeniable, and she returned in 2009 as Program Manager at Smith Lodge, where she continued to touch lives until her final retirement in November 2019.
Linda was known by many of the residents at Missions Inc. as the “Medicine Lake Mama”—a nickname that speaks to the deep compassion and dedication she had for everyone she served, as well as their deep affection for her. She was a fierce and unwavering advocate for those in recovery from substance use disorder and homelessness, and she had a way of making everyone around her feel seen, valued, and understood. She was a vibrant part of our community, bringing quick wit and humor to brighten even the hardest days. Many of my fondest memories with Linda are filled with the sounds of her contagious laughter.
Linda was also a gifted baker, and we were the lucky recipients of her delicious creations. She loved her dog Louie (and Sammy before that), and often brought him to work to provide pet therapy for the residents. She also had a green thumb for gardening—creating gardens around Smith and Mission Lodges that continue to thrive today.
Linda’s legacy is etched into the lives of thousands she touched over the years. She was truly one of a kind. Thank you, Linda, for all the laughs, the treats, and the incredible heart you brought to our community.
Linda passed away on October 17th following a long illness. She is remembered by her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and her beloved dog, Louie….and by the thousands of people whose lives she touched in her twenty-four years of service at Missions Inc.
She will be deeply missed.
