With the recent rise in racist, xenophobic, and Islamophobic rhetoric targeting our Somali neighbors, we are called to denounce all efforts to cause fear, trauma, and instability in our community. These tactics can be especially traumatizing for families already navigating systemic barriers and preventable social issues such as domestic violence, racial and economic inequity, and substance use stigma.
Missions Inc. Programs stands in solidarity with our Somali neighbors, families, and community members across Minnesota. Our state is home to the largest Somali population in the country. Somalis contribute deeply to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of our communities. They deserve dignity, safety, and respect.
As an organization, we are guided by our mission to provide a collaborative community and safe space where people are empowered to heal and transform their lives. Our vision is a world where every person realizes their worth and lives with dignity. These commitments call us to affirm human worth, foster self-determination, value diversity, and seek social justice.
We serve all individuals who come to us for safety, shelter, housing, harm reduction, and recovery, regardless of race, religion, national origin, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or creed. Racism, xenophobia, and discrimination have no place in our work or our community.
Missions Inc. Programs will continue standing with Minnesota’s Somali community, along with all of our maligned and marginalized neighbors, today and every day as we work toward a more just, safe, and inclusive world for all.
